About the Role
The post holder will be joining the Preventive Neurology Unit (PNU), at the Wolfson Institute of Population Health, Queen Mary University of London. They will work within the Parkinson`s disease (PD) group, whose studies focus on the clinical, genetic and biomarker aspects in people with PD and at risk of PD.
The post-holder will be expected to assist with the international Slow-SPEED project; a novel intervention study to explore the feasibility of an exercise intervention to reduce the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease. Participants in a long-running PNU study known as PREDICT-PD will be invited to take part in the Slow-SPEED intervention study. The post-holder act as the main link between PREDICT-PD and Slow-SPEED, working with the respective teams (based the UK and abroad), and under the supervision of the Professor of Neurology, in order to realise the objectives of the projects.
About You
Candidates must have a medical degree (MB BS or equivalent). A BSc or Master’s degree in a science subject or equivalent experience is essential. The ideal candidate will also have a broad understanding of the research process and familiarity with Good Clinical Practice and the regulations around data protection and security. Experience of working with clinical research data and knowledge of Parkinson`s disease would be advantageous.
About the Centre
The Centre for Prevention, Detection and Diagnosis is at the forefront of international research into the prevention and control of neurological disease and cancer. The Preventive Neurology Unit has particularly active research programmes in multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and dementia. The Centre for Prevention, Detection and Diagnosis also has major expertise in cancer screening, awareness and early diagnosis, and statistical methods for clinical trials and epidemiology, and the postholder would have access to expertise within these areas to support their professional development.

The post is a 0.6 FTE fixed term appointment for 1 year. Starting salary will be on Doctor in Training scale, FY2-CT2 (£34,012 – £40,257) inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave and staff pension scheme.
