Job description

We are looking to appoint an innovative, enthusiastic, and committed individual to the role of Lecturer in Digital Health Sciences to grow the School’s capacity in the area and deliver high-quality research and teaching.

We expect the appointed individual to show exceptional promise, to develop rapidly and to have the potential to be a nationally leading figure in the field.

The postholder will work very closely with the new incoming Head of the School & Chair in Population and Digital Health Sciences, Professor Josip Car, to strengthen and lead a research program in population digital health sciences, including the design and conduct of original research, the mentorship of junior researchers, and the supervision of graduate students. The postholder will also be part of the Digital Health Group in the Department of Population Health Sciences.

Population digital health sciences is an interdisciplinary field that combines population health with digital interventions, novel technologies, and data-driven approaches to better understand, monitor, and improve population health. It leverages digital tools, big data analytics, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to study and address health-related issues affecting populations on a large scale. This often involves collaboration among researchers, public health practitioners, data scientists, and policymakers to develop strategies for managing health problems and promoting well-being. Population digital health sciences aim to advance benefits presented by, amongst others, electronic health records (EHRs), wearable devices and apps, online platforms, and telehealth. Of particular interest are the applications of these technologies to the challenges of managing multimorbidities in aging populations and links between non-communicable diseases and mental health, both in UK and global settings.

One of the key elements of the role will be helping develop the education offering in digital health, within the School of Life Course & Population Sciences, as well as in collaboration with other relevant schools and departments at King’s.

The successful candidate will be working in the Department of Population Health Sciences, within the School of Life Course & Population Sciences and Faculty of Life Science & Medicine.

The post holder will establish a strong research programme in digital therapeutics and health apps, with a focus on developing and evaluating digital technology-based interventions to improve health outcomes. This may include exploration of how generative AI and large language models can enhance various aspects of health apps or the potential of wearables’ data to make medical interventions more tailored to individual’s needs.

The postholder will establish and develop collaborative research programmes in the field of digital health, drawing on King’s Health Partners, Health Data Research UK, NIHR South London ARC and other communities at King’s.

Contract type

This post will be offered on an indefinite contract.

This is a full-time post – 100% full time equivalent.
