Opportunities for Lecturers in Midwifery – Southeast of England
We are seeking Midwifery Lecturers to join our highly accredited School of Health Sciences. We are a leading provider of undergraduate and postgraduate education and are in the top 10 in the UK for research following the last Research Excellence Framework assessment. In addition to this, we have been awarded Gold for our Teaching.
These opportunities have arisen in response to a specialist midwifery project and we are looking for several people to be based around Canterbury and Medway in Kent. This is a time limited project, commencing in September 2023 and will be fixed term for 18 months in the first instance, although this can be flexible dependent on individual circumstances.
The role
You will have the opportunity to work closely with a small cohort of students to bring your practical and teaching expertise to support the cohort to complete their training. There will be lots of interaction with your students with around two days a week of teaching, alongside administrative tasks to support the delivery of the programme. Their teaching will combine 50% theory with 50% practical.
About you
We are looking for people who are passionate about teaching and seeking an opportunity to work closely with the next generation of midwives. You will have a professional registration with the NMC as a midwife and be available to start as soon as possible in the new academic year. We will consider both qualified teachers and those who do not hold a formal teaching qualification* but can demonstrate a commitment to mentoring and teaching. Due to the nature of the project we are happy to consider secondment opportunities or people requesting part time working or shorter term options for example associate contracts. Please indicate in your application.
*Please note roles are available at Lecturer A and B levels. Lecturer A salary range is £36,024 to £44,263
We are pleased to advise that you may be able to continue to pay into the NHS pension scheme; this facility enables you to continue to contribute towards your existing NHS pension despite no longer being employed by the NHS. Access to the NHS pension scheme will only be available if certain criteria are satisfied, so if this is something you wish to investigate, please do check directly with the University of Surrey Pensions Office at pensions@surrey.ac.uk
If you would like to discuss this unique and exciting opportunity further, please contact Rebecca Greenacre Lead Midwife for Education r.greenacre@surrey.ac.uk. We look forward to receiving your application via the University of Surrey’s website.
We would ask that you do not delay your application, as we will respond to applications during the course of the next two weeks and will reserve the right to close the advert early.
