The School of Health and Social Care has an excellent reputation for teaching and research in social scientific approaches to the study of health, illness, and wellbeing. Our academic members of staff include health policy, service and systems researchers, sociologists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, psychological therapists, nurses, social workers, oral health practitioners, and psychologists. The School of Health and Social Care delivers a range of innovative professional educational programmes.

Duties of the Role
You will contribute to excellence in education by designing and delivering substantive and effective teaching and learning support, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and develop a research agenda, which pursues individual and/or collaborative research objectives and produce research outputs for publication.

In addition, at Grade 10 level, you will provide research leadership and engage in activities that will enhance the research profile of the School and those at Professor level will pursue research that is world leading in terms of originality, significance and rigour, in keeping with the REF criteria.

Skills and qualifications required
The successful candidates will hold a relevant doctoral level degree or equivalent professional experience; fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or the ability to gain professional recognition at this or a higher-level is necessary. You will have particular expertise and training in one or more areas of relevance to the field of global public health. We especially encourage candidates with a background / experience in health epidemiology and/or areas of mental health, social determinants, and health policies in international contexts.

Candidates would be expected to have substantial experience in teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels, or demonstrable potential to engage in teaching and learning support in, engaging and innovative ways and at Grade 9 level, have a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes and evidence of a research agenda, engagement in high-quality research activity and a developing research profile.

At Grade 10 level, you will be required to provide evidence of an established and internationally recognised research profile and have strong track record of published academic output at international levels of recognition with evidence of a clear publication plan for submission to future Research Excellence Framework (REF) programmes.

As part of the process and to be successful you will be required to demonstrate how you your research has been impactful within and beyond the academic sphere, recognising the importance of this and the effect it will have on the University.

The University of Essex is a campus-based university and all academic appointments are made with the expectation that you will be present on campus to fulfil the requirements of your position. At the time of a job offer, the possibility of hybrid working, will be discussed and considered on an individual basis, but you will be required to be based within the UK.
