Overview of the Role

Assessment leads in the School of Medicine provide the academic lead for assessment in their Year of the MBChB programme. 

There is an Assessment Lead associated with each of the five years of the MBChB programme.   The key responsibilities of this leadership position are:

  • The management, delivery, and quality assurance of the summative end of year assessments, in accordance with University and GMC requirements.
  • Innovation and scholarship in assessment for undergraduate medical degrees, in accordance with higher education standards of excellence (e.g. Teaching Excellence Framework).

The Assessment Lead contributes to year-level MBChB management meetings, working with the Year Heads, Academic Sub-Dean and ICU Leads.  

This role has both operational duties, organising examinations in accordance with University and School of Medicine regulations through membership of the year-level MBChB course management meetings, and elements of strategic development through membership of the MBChB assessment committee. 

Assessment Leads are responsible to the MBChB assessment lead, who is then accountable to the MBChB programme lead, and then the Head of Assessment for the School of Medicine and the Dean of Medicine.

You will be expected to play an important role in ensuring the delivery of assessment that recognise the significance of health inequalities that exist within our society and promote a culture of equality diversity and inclusion.
