The role

We are seeking an outstanding individual to provide leadership for the MBChB programme within Bristol Medical School. The appointment will be full or part-time with 5 PAs from the University of Bristol (UoB), to be combined with an NHS clinical role for the remainder of the post – adding up to full-time 10PAs or a lower fraction of clinical time. The post is a major role and will require co-leadership and matrix management of approximately 80 teaching leadership roles within the programme.

What will you be doing?

You will identify and prioritise strategic changes to the programme to enhance and improve its delivery and student experience through collaboration with members of the School leadership team, Faculty Education Directors, and Clinical Academy Deans and other colleagues at NHS partner organisations.

You will link curriculum evaluation and research into school, faculty and university research agendas, and ensure dissemination of good practice within the university and beyond. You will ensure the governance of the programme internally and externally. You will oversee final year students’ applications to the UK Foundation Programme and represent the university on the Severn Foundation School Committee.

You should apply if

  • You have full registration with the GMC, alongside working clinically
  • You have evidence of leading teaching and assessment and a strong interest in education practice, development and innovation
  • You have considerable experience of leadership within medical undergraduate programmes within HE or the NHS
  • Experience of university/NHS teaching is essential, preferably with teaching qualification(s)
  • You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to effectively lead and motivate people
  • You are able to work in a collegial and supportive manner with academic and professional services staff at all levels in the University, and to effectively manage and develop contacts with external partners and bodies including NHS partner organisations, the GMC, Medical Schools Council, and NHS England
  • You have a commitment to mentoring teaching staff and continuing personal professional development.
