The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that Canada is imposing further sanctions in relation to Russia’s illegal and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine.

Despite calls from the international community to cease its egregious actions, the Russian regime continues to wage its senseless war. As such, to increase pressure on the Russian war machine, Canada is imposing new measures on 43 military officials and 17 entities that are complicit in Russian President Vladimir Putin’s senseless bloodshed, including the horrific events in Bucha, Ukraine. Canada strongly condemns the murder of civilians in Ukraine and will use every tool at its disposal to ensure that violations of international law across Ukraine, including those in Bucha, are fully investigated.

These new sanctions are the latest example of Canada’s efforts to stand with Ukraine in defence of its sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence. Canada continues to coordinate with like-minded partners to ensure that those who commit atrocities are held to account.

Canada also continues to work with its international partners to coordinate actions and explore options for new measures in response to the Russian regime’s unjustifiable acts.
