The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will join Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia, and the 18th Summit of La Francophonie in Djerba, Tunisia. She will be traveling from November 12 to 20, 2022.
While in Cambodia, Minister Joly will highlight Canada’s significant contributions to continue building on the 45 years of strong cooperation between Canada and ASEAN. Minister Joly will also engage on the forthcoming Indo-Pacific Strategy in support of a rules-based international order and a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific, with ASEAN at its core.
In her engagements at the G20, Minister Joly will emphasize Canada’s steadfast support for multilateral dialogue. Her participation will provide an opportunity to influence matters related to economic stability and growth in Canada and globally. This year’s summit will also give G20 leaders the opportunity to address the global impacts of Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. Minister Joly will highlight the importance of continuing to work with allies and partners, and other countries most affected by the repercussions of Russia’s illegal invasion.
In Tunisia, Minister Joly will lead Canada’s participation at the Francophonie Ministerial Conference. Minister Joly will highlight Canada’s contributions to the Francophone digital space, and will discuss institutional reforms of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie. Minister Joly will also promote democracy, human rights and the French language
