The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs, today announced that she will travel to Lima, Peru, from October 4 to 6, 2022 to attend the 52nd regular session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS).

Minister Joly will meet with her counterparts from across the hemisphere to highlight the importance of working together on priority issues, including democracy and human rights in the region, international security, the situation in Nicaragua, Russia’s illegal invasion of Ukraine and its global consequences, and sustainable development.

Continuing the dialogue that took place at the United Nations General Assembly in September, Minister Joly will convene a roundtable with Haiti to discuss how the international community can help respond to the crisis. She will reaffirm Canada’s commitment to work toward the development of a more stable, democratic and prosperous future for Haiti.

Minister Joly will meet with Peru’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and deliver Canada’s national statement at the first in-person General Assembly since 2019. The minister looks forward to working with OAS member states and supporting Peru’s efforts to ensure a successful General Assembly.
