May 17, 2022 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada
The Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada, will travel to Berlin, Germany, to attend the G7 Development Ministers’ Meeting from May 18 to 19, 2022.
At the meeting, Minister Sajjan will meet with G7 partners to discuss the international response to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine. They will discuss the ongoing global food security crisis, how it has been exacerbated by the war in Ukraine, and how it affects the most vulnerable, including those already facing humanitarian crises, particularly in Africa and the Middle East. Ministers will consider options for addressing pressing development challenges such as infrastructure investment, climate action and the importance of feminist development policy, especially during crises.
International cooperation remains critical to an inclusive, sustainable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, for the first time, the G7 Development Ministers’ Meeting will have a joint working session with the G7 Health Ministers’ Meeting. Minister Sajjan will be joined by his colleague, the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Health, to discuss accelerating equitable and sustainable access to safe and quality-assured vaccines, therapeutics and diagnostics, as well as strengthening pandemic prevention, preparedness and response in developing countries.
During the 2-day session, Minister Sajjan will also have the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings with several counterparts and multilateral partners.
