The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs; and the Honourable Mary Ng, Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, today announced that they will accompany Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to the North American Leaders’ Summit in Mexico City, Mexico, on January 10, 2023.

The summit will bring together leaders from Canada, Mexico and the United States, and will focus on trade, competitiveness and economic development, as well as on diversity and inclusion, climate change and the environment, migration and development, health and security.

Minister Joly will deepen discussions with her counterparts from the United States and Mexico on global and regional issues, including in relation to Ukraine, Haiti and Venezuela. They will also discuss shared priorities, including democracy in the Americas and collaboration to advance feminist foreign policies.

Minister Ng will meet with Raquel Buenrostro, Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, to discuss important bilateral trade issues. She will also engage with members of the business community, including representatives of the Canadian Technology Accelerator in Mexico and women entrepreneurs, to explore ways to enhance cooperative efforts in North America. The Minister will further underline Canada’s commitment to strengthening North American competitiveness, which supports strong and stable middle class jobs in our 3 countries.
