MSc by Research in Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Repair programme at The University of Edinburgh

This one year programme aims to expand the knowledge of stem cells, regenerative medicine and tissue repair concepts, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary and transitional research. Regenerative medicine aims to discover novel strategies to treat disease by replacing or regenerating damaged cells. The programme, based at the Institute for Regeneration and Repair (IRR), will deliver a broad range of cross-disciplinary training to equip graduates with the skills to drive the potential of regenerative medicine into advancements in human health.

Students will receive training from world-renowned experts in stem cell research, tissue repair and regenerative medicine. The programme will be embedded within IRR’s Postgraduate Training Framework. Students will choose one of two pathways, in which they will be working with experts across the life cycle of cell and gene therapy development and production, ranging from discovery science and phase I/II clinical trials to manufacturing of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP).

Programme description:

Two research projects and a project proposal

Students will undertake laboratory skills training and animal handling courses and will attend seminars and journal clubs. They will be asked to complete to research projects which last 20 weeks. They are also asked to complete a 5 week project proposal. Once they have completed all the research they are asked to write up a dissertation of all their findings, not exceeding 10,000 words. Both research projects are worth 80 credits. Submission dates for project one will be early march and towards the end of August for research project two.

Eligibility and funding

To be eligible for the MSc by Research in Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Repair programme you should have a UK 2:1 honours degree, or its international equivalent, in a relevant biological, medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine discipline. Candidates will have to meet the standard English language entry requirements of The University of Edinburgh. All applicants to the University will be asked to demonstrate a level of English language competency, regardless of their nationality or country of residence.
