April 28, 2022 – Ottawa, Ontario – Global Affairs Canada
Today, Arif Virani, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade, Export Promotion, Small Business and Economic Development, spoke with Canadian industry and civil society stakeholders following the launch of the Government of Canada’s new Responsible Business Conduct Strategy.
During the meeting, Parliamentary Secretary Virani presented key features of Responsible Business Conduct Abroad: Canada’s Strategy for The Future. The 5-year strategy (2022 to 2027) sets out priorities for the Government of Canada to support Canadian businesses as they integrate leading responsible business conduct (RBC) into their operations and mitigate any potential risks of doing business abroad.
Parliamentary Secretary Virani heard from a wide variety of business and civil society stakeholders. The participants discussed the new strategy’s action plan, that includes the development of new digital tools and resources to help Canadian companies strengthen responsible business practices, as well as a monitoring and evaluation framework, and the introduction of the Digital Responsible Business Conduct Attestation for clients of Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service.
Parliamentary Secretary Virani concluded the meeting by thanking the participants for their engagement and noted the importance of continued collaboration in order to build awareness around RBC expectations, increase company-led due diligence, and lead within the global RBC ecosystem.
