The University of Essex is offering 17 PhD research Scholarships for students applying to any academic department for a PhD related to one of the following themes:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Climate and Sustainability
  • Coastal Communities
  • Health, Wellbeing and Ageing
  • Security and Resilience

How to apply

You will need to have applied for place to study with a department at the University of Essex before you can apply for funding. The key first step is to ensure the agreement of a prospective supervisor and submit the required documentation. Our online application process is quick and straightforward.

You should apply for PhD scholarship funding separately from your online PhD study application. Your PhD scholarship funding application consists of an application form which includes a statement of interest. You should download the application form, and return it along with your research proposal (which must relate to one of the five themes listed above) and CV to funding@essex.ac.uk.

You should apply for a place to study as soon as possible. The deadline for the online applications for PhD study and for the funding/scholarship applications to funding@essex.ac.uk is Saturday 10 June at midnight GMT.
