We are looking for a Post-Doctoral Researcher, who has experience in working with archival material, to investigate and develop a new research stream as part of the Wellcome Trust funded project, One Health, which explores archive collections relating to veterinary history and human and animal health and wellbeing dating from 1840 to the present day.
The opportunity:
You will form a central role in the One Health project by using information found in the collections, which are currently being catalogued and conserved, to create a new research stream. The collections involved in this project are the archives of the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, and OneKind.
A couple of research streams have been identified which we are keen to see investigated. They include, studies into the relationship between the women’s rights movement of the early 20th century and animal welfare charities, or comparing the language of vaccinations and pandemics from the mid-20th century to that of Covid-19.
As part of the role, you will be expected to carry out research and publish on the collections. You will also undertake public and academic engagement work and provide the necessary subject-related support to the Project Archivist.
Your skills and attributes for success:
- A Doctoral degree in a subject aligned with the project collections
- Skilled communicator
- Experience in working with archival collections
