Job Advert

We are recruiting a Post-Doctoral Fellow to contribute to the experimental work of the Musculoskeletal theme of the NIHR Barts Biomedical Research Centre (NIHR Barts BRC) within the ReGen Group within Experimental Medicine and Rheumatology. Experimental work will be conducted at the William Harvey Research Institute.

The research group/centre

The Regenerative Medicine group is led by Professor Francesco Dell’Accio. Research within the Regenerative Medicine group is focused on the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis and the molecular mechanisms of regeneration of joint tissues including cartilage and bone, with the ultimate goal to develop molecular therapeutics to achieve joint tissue regeneration. This particular post will contribute to the generation of a highly characterised cohort of patients with osteoarthritis or at high risk of osteoarthritis with the ultimate aim of identifying criteria to predict progression and mechanism of progression/response to intervention.

The osteoarthritis subtheme of the NIHR Barts BRC include amongst others, rheumatologists, orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, biologists, engineers and neurophysiologists.

The Centre for Experimental Medicine and Rheumatology offers state of the art laboratories and is in the heart of the City of London. The Centre is integrated in the Rheumatology department at Barts and the London NHS Trust offering unique translational opportunities.

The candidate

Applications are invited for an experienced Post-Doctoral Fellow to actively contribute to exciting work as part of the Musculoskeletal theme within a major Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) in Precision Healthcare, recently awarded to the Barts Health NHS Trust clinical/academic delivery partnership by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The candidate will have either a PhD or an MD degree relevant to the programme (rheumatology). The candidate will have experience and knowledge in cartilage biology including relevant laboratory techniques and clinical aspects of osteoarthritis. The candidate will have good interpersonal and communication skills and is an enthusiastic team player.

Duration and salary

The post is full time and on a fixed term 4 year contract. Salary will be in the range of basic salary: £41,386. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
