Applications are invited for a Wellcome Trust-funded Postdoctoral position to join the laboratory of Professor Sussan Nourshargh within the Centre for Microvascular Research at William Harvey Research Institute, Faculty of Medicine, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). The position offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated postdoctoral fellow to join a dynamic team of researchers investigating neutrophil trafficking. Building on significant recent findings from the team (e.g. Girbl et al., Immunity, 2018; Owen-Woods et al., J Clin Invest., 2020; Reglero-Real et al., Immunity, 2021; Barkaway et al., Immunity, 2021), the focus of the project is to analyse the impact of ageing on dynamics of neutrophil trafficking in inflamed tissues. Specifically, the project will aim to elucidate the molecular basis of remote organ damage in aged mice as induced by the aberrant response of neutrophil reverse transmigration. The project will employ unique genetically modified models, highly specialised real-time in vivo microscopy methods, innovative cell culture techniques and single cell spatial transcriptomics.
The Centre for Microvascular Research, based on the Charterhouse Square Campus of the Medical School, is an internationally respected hub of vascular and inflammation research that offers newly re-furbished laboratories and a cutting-edge microscopy facility.
We are looking for outstanding, enthusiastic, independent and ambitious candidates committed to a scientific career with an interest in the fields of inflammation, immunity and/or vascular biology. Technical expertise in in vivo, confocal microscopy, advanced flow cytometry and/or molecular (e.g. RNASeq) methodologies would be advantageous. The ability to work in a team is essential. The post is full-time and fixed term for 3 years with a possibility of a further 1-year extension. Starting salary will be in the range of £36,572 – £41,386 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Applications from EU countries and around the world are welcome and where necessary QMUL will sponsor the attainment of a UK Work visa.
