We are recruiting for an exceptional individual to join us as a Postdoctoral Research Associate within our research team, to uncover the synaptic localisation and interactome of the neurodegenerative disease-associated protein,

TDP-43. This is a fixed-term appointment for 24 months, thanks to a recent Academy of Medical Sciences Springboard Award.

Working in the lab of Dr Chris Henstridge, you will use high-resolution imaging techniques to assess TDP-43 localisation at a subcellular level, in post-mortem human brain. There will be a particular focus on the synaptic and subsynaptic localisation and how this might change in Motor Neuron Disease (MND). You will also use molecular techniques to extract TDP-43 interacting proteins from synaptically-enriched preparations and apply mass- spectrometry protocols to identify these interactors. Working with collaborators in Ulm, Germany the PDRA will also assess changes in the TDP-43 interactome in human iPSC-derived neurons from healthy donors and ALS donors.

The Henstridge lab was established in 2019 and currently consists of two full-time PhD students and a Postdoc. This position is a great opportunity to join a small yet highly collaborative and ambitious research team. You will have the opportunity to drive an exciting and achievable project over 24 months and experience the exciting imaging and proteomic studies underway in the lab.

Your priorities will include:

  • Taking a lead role in establishing and driving the research project
  • Staining,imaging,andanalysinghigh-resolutionmicroscopyimagesof human post-mortem bra! in
  • Establishing co-IP protocols for extracting TDP-43 interactors
  • Performing bioinformatic analyses of proteomics datasets
  • Being closely involved in dissemination of the research work at scientific meetings and public engagement activities, by giving oral presentations, and for writing and resulting research papers for publication

Who we’re looking for:

  • A primary degree in a relevant biological science
  • A PhD in a relevant scientific area
  • Experience of research techniques applicable to the project, including high-resolution imaging, molecular biology, and proteomics
  • Evidence of working successfully in a collaborative research environment
