Applications are invited for the post of Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with internationally recognised research group based at the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN) at the University of Sheffield.

We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join an exciting new project at the translational medicine interface in rare vascular diseases such as CADASIL, Col4A1 disease etc. There is some flexibility on the precise disease. You will be a practically skilled, well organized, flexible and committed Postdoctoral Researcher who will join the team led by Professors Arshad Majid and Mimoun Azzouz.

The aim of your project is to generate adeno-associated vector (AAV) based gene and other therapeutic approaches for rare vascular diseases. You will conduct laboratory research on a semi-independent basis under the direction of the principal investigators. You will be expected to: design, execute and evaluate experiments; keep excellent experimental records; prepare reports regularly and feed back to the consortium partners in regular conference calls. You are also expected to contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts, attend and deliver seminars and supervise undergraduate students.

You will have a strong pre-clinical research experience. Expertise in molecular, cellular biology and gene therapy will be advantageous. The successful candidate should be strongly motivated, self-driven, able to accept direction and be an excellent team player. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are expected.

This post is fixed term for 24 months with possibility of extension and is available immediately. Salary will be set at the appropriate point on the post-doctoral research associate scale.

We are looking for someone to work independently as an imaging-focused scientist, applying creative and innovative approaches to take on the research question. You will also be an excellent communicator and clearly demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of the team. You will have the ability to handle your own workload effectively while maintaining the flexibility required for working in scientific environments. There are opportunities for regular contributions to the full range of research that our group is engaged in, which need a commitment to generating collaborative, conscientious and diverse working environments.

We’re one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University’s Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
