Full Time: 35 Hours per Week
Fixed Term Contract: 3 years in the first instance
We are looking for a talented researcher to join our team at the UK Dementia Research Institute at the University of Edinburgh, within the lab of Centre Director Professor Giles Hardingham.
The Opportunity:
To drive a project aiming to determine how astrocytes change in response to Aß and tau pathology, the role that microglia play in mediating these changes, and the consequences of these changes. Ultimately this will lead to rescue strategies and therapeutic targets to modify patho-progression. The successful candidate will use established in vivo models of ß-amyloidopathy and tauopathy, including genetic models as well as the administration of human brain AD homogenate, plus mice lacking microglia (with and without microglial replacement therapy). Approaches will be tailored to the questions being asked, but may involve single-cell and spatial transcriptomics/proteomics, in vivo optical imaging, PET/MR, behavioural testing, electrophysiology and cell biological/primary culture approaches. All relevant training will be given.
