Salary: From £32,868 to £42,717 (Depending on experience) plus relocation allowance and Visa costs if required. 

Contract term: Fixed up to 6 years, subject to successful review at Year 3

The CRUK Beatson Institute is a cancer research institute situated in Glasgow with approximately 250 researchers split across 30 research groups consisting of PIs, postdoctoral scientists, PhD students and scientific officers. It is one of Europe’s leading cancer research centres, supporting cutting-edge work into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development. As well as core support from Cancer Research UK, the Institute also receives an additional third of its total income from external grants and industry collaborations. It has an excellent reputation for fundamental cancer research, including world-class metabolism studies and renowned in vivo modelling of tumour growth and metastasis. Project outline

A postdoctoral position is available for an ambitious, creative and motivated scientist to join the Diamantopoulou group at the Beatson Institute to investigate the intricate relationship between metastasis and circadian rhythm. This work builds upon our recent publication https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-022-04875-y. The lab employs cutting-edge microfluidics and robotic technologies, along with single-cell analysis methods and imaging techniques to analyse samples from cancer patients and a range of cancer mouse models available at the CRUK Beatson Institute. The primary focus of this research project is to  unveil the mechanisms through which the circadian rhythm-regulated microenvironment drives the formation of metastasis.

As an ideal candidate, you should hold a PhD in cancer biology with a strong background in metastasis, or be in the final stages of completing their degree. Expertise in working with cancer mouse models is essential. While prior research experience with Circulating Tumour Cells or circadian rhythm would be advantageous, it is not mandatory. Additionally, a track record of published work or submitted manuscripts is expected. Finally, you should demonstrate the ability to conduct both independent and collaborative research, as well as effectively plan and prioritise tasks to ensure the project timelines are met.
