The MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) is a research institute within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). UKRI is an entitythat brings together nine partnersto create an independent organisation with a strong voice for research and innovation, more information can be found at www.ukri.org.
We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist to join the group of Sjors Scheres to work on cryo-EM structure determination of amyloid filaments. Specifically, to explore lab-based model systems (using purified recombinant proteins or cells) that will allow the formation of amyloid filaments with the same structures as those observed in neurodegenerative disease. Once identified, these systems will be exploited to gain mechanistic insights into the molecular processes that underlie the structural specificity of filament formation in disease.
You will become part of our bubbly, multi-disciplinary team that operates in close collaboration with the group of Michel Goedert, who is also at the MRC-LMB. You will become an expert in experimental cryo-EM structure determination, and you will benefit from further interactions with the wider scientific community at the MRC-LMB. You are highly motivated to work on amyloids and have a PhD in a relevant subject or be due to complete within 6 months. Previous experience with either amyloids or cryo-EM will be an advantage.
