Professor of Medical Statistics at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. We are seeking to appoint a Professor to establish and lead a substantive research programme within the Department of Medical Statistics. The primary focus of the role will be to provide academic leadership, to conduct and publish research of the highest quality and educate students to a high academic standard, and as a result improve the academic standing and sustainability of the School. 

The ideal candidate will be internationally recognised for their expertise in an area of statistical research that complements our current strengths in clinical trials, epidemiological methods, causal inference, analysis of electronic health records, missing data and Bayesian statistics. Our emerging interests include data science methodology and machine learning, methods of analysing very large datasets, infectious diseases, spatial and GIS data and health impacts of environmental exposure and climate change.

As well as establishing their own research programme the appointee will have the opportunity to collaborate on diverse research (both methodological and applied) being conducted across the School and with external partners. The appointee will contribute to teaching on the MSc programmes, principally in Medical Statistics and Health Data Science.

The successful candidate will have proven ability to obtain research funding from major funders, including salary recovery, and manage a significant portfolio of research projects, excellent track record of publishing as lead, senior and co-author in peer-reviewed outputs, an understanding of the strategies for improving equity and inclusion in research and/or learning and teaching, experience of leading and managing research teams. The post is open ended and full-time. The salary will be on the Professorial salary scale, Grade C/Bii/Bi/A, upwards of £69,254 per annum depending on level appointed (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
