Research Assistant/Associate at Newcastle University

The Role
Air pollution has a serious impact on our health. Research has found that up to 36,000 deaths occur each year in the UK because of air pollution. Pollutants in the air affect the whole body, including the lungs, eyes, nose, throat, and heart. The most vulnerable people in our society, such as those with existing health conditions and from low-income communities, are affected more often.

As part of this NIHR-funded project, we will use primary care data to find out which multi-morbidity clusters are most strongly associated with high use of primary healthcare services, when air quality is poor. This will help us to better plan for the future and improve healthcare services. The primary aim of the project is to develop a health risk score that can predict the likelihood of a person seeing a GP or other health care professional when exposed to changes in air pollution levels.

Availability to start work in August 2023.

Qualifications

• Good honours degree (or equivalent) with some subject knowledge in the relevant area (Research Assistant).
• A PhD in health sciences, pharmacy, psychology, social sciences or a related field (Research Associate).
