Fixed term contract (48 months)

Full time (35 hours per week)

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist to join our group to understand the contributions of non-coding RNAs to the life cycle of tumour-associated viruses, namely Epstein-Barr virus, Kaposi sarcoma herpesvirus, and human cytomegalovirus. This project aims to reveal functions and mechanisms of infection-induced circular RNA, a novel player in the virus-host interaction, on virus infection, propagation, immune evasion, and tumorigenesis. To this end, we will employ interdisciplinary approaches in virology, RNA biology, immunology, and bioinformatics.

The opportunity:

The successful candidate will join a group led by Dr Takanobu Tagawa at the Institute of Quantitative Biology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology (IQB3) at the University of Edinburgh. The candidate will use a wide variety of complementary techniques to define functions of circular RNAs during oncogenic virus infection. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to obtain a PhD (funding to cover their tuition fees at home/UK rate will be provided).

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Relevant qualifications for the role.
  • Experience in virology, RNA biology, or immunology
  • A skill in biostatistics and bioinformatics
  • An ability to work independently as well as in collaboratively
  • A desire to learn new techniques and concepts and to make discoveries
