You will support the work of the Synthetic Trials research group which is being formed within the Department of Health Data Science. This post is available as part of an NIHR advanced fellowship held by Dr Richard Jackson.

Synthetic Controls allow the estimation of treatment effects whilst reducing the need for the recruitment of contemporary control patients. The role of the Synthetic Trials Working Group will be to develop methodology, apply in in practice and create a web repository to research to publicise and communicate the tools which are developed. This project should support clinicians and methodologist and ultimately aid in treatment decisions, and result in improved care for patients.

Synthetic controls depend on the production and validation of predictive models. Your role will be to create these models and also support other activities of the working group. You should have a first degree (2.1 or above) with a substantial statistics component, a Masters in Statistics or equivalent is highly desirable. The post is available until 31 December 2026.
