We have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant Tau Biology (Neurons and pancreatic beta cells), to join the Diabetes and Inflammation Laboratory (DIL) at the University of Oxford You will report to Professor John Todd and Dr Irina Stefana.

The project involves working with primary tissue (human donor pancreatic islets) and cultured human pancreatic beta cells, as well as other widely-used immortalized human cell lines (e.g. HEKs, SH-SY5Y), protein analysis by Western blot and investigating protein-protein interactions by co-immunoprecipitation. The DIL is a vibrant, enthusiastic, innovative and strategic enterprise in an internationally-leading position to make a real difference, not only to diabetes families in the future, but also to contributing significantly to basic knowledge of the disease process, and to develop and apply research methods and experimental medicine approaches.

You will be responsible for managing your own schedule and administrative activities, and gather, analyse, and present scientific data from a variety of sources. You will perform wet lab experimental work to test research hypotheses and complete data sets required for publication, with guidance from Dr. Irina Stefana. You will be responsible for general laboratory management and administration, including stock control of laboratory consumables. You will also be responsible for selecting, following and adapting experimental protocols, and troubleshooting if technical problems arise.

It is essential that you hold a BSc degree (or equivalent) in a biological subject, and have relevant experience of wet-lab work in a research environment. You will have experience of following and adapting laboratory protocols, selecting appropriate experimental methodologies and troubleshooting. You will be flexible, adaptive and creative in solving problems and dealing with change, and you will also have excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly and accurately summaries your work and findings, both orally and in writing.
