The role

A postdoctoral position in Neuroscience is available in Dr Shamik DasGupta’s lab in the School of Physiology, Pharmacology and Neuroscience at the University of Bristol from September 2023. The position will be part of a Wellcome Trust-funded project in which we aim to complete an existing project on how the cell biology of neurons changes during plasticity events and understand how these changes are affected by cognitive ageing.

You will use genetic, transcriptomic and multiphoton imaging to explore the link between gene expression, neural activity and behaviour. This project gives an excellent opportunity to lead an exciting project to completion and is ideal for candidates looking for a short postdoc before moving towards independence.

Experimental Approaches:  2-photon imaging, electrophysiology, genetics.

What will you be doing?

  • Take the lead on and manage your own academic research and administrative activities.
  • Development and application of experimental protocols, data acquisition, analysis and interpretation.
  • Contribution towards the preparation and submission of manuscripts and grant applications.
  • Manage specialist scientific equipment for the lab.

You should apply if

  • PhD-level knowledge and experience of Drosophila cell biology / transcriptomics / organelle biology.
  • Experience of working with Drosophila.
  • Experience with confocal / multiphoton microscopy.
  • Record of productivity, evidenced by research publications.
