An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate within internationally recognised research groups in a vibrant and stimulating environment at the Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN) in the Department of Neuroscience, the Department of Infection, immunity and Cardiovascular Disease and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. This project is part of a consortium in a joint collaboration with University College London and the University of Oxford.

We are seeking a highly motivated part-time (50%) scientist to join an exciting new project to engage experimental and clinical researchers with high performance computing. You will be located within SiTRAN, working on the in silico modelling of drugs targeting protein: nucleic acid complexes and genomic datasets and coordinating MBChB medicine students Research SSC projects in the area of computational biomedicine

You will be an enthusiastic, experienced and committed Postdoctoral Researcher who will use a variety of computational methods aimed at the development of novel translational approaches and committed to ensuring that the next generation of Doctors acquires expertise in the application of High Performance Computing technologies to clinical practice. This post is particularly suited to early career researchers who aim to embed experimental research with teaching and supervising experience. Support is provided for the preparation of an application for professional accreditation with the Higher Education Academy.

The successful candidate will join a research team under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team involving Professor Guillaume Hautbergue (RNA Biology in neurodegeneration and advanced therapies), Dr Andrew Narracott (Biomechanical and numerical applications to blood flow) and Dr Alberto Marzo (Mechanical engineering for the development of technology at the interface between physical and life sciences).

You will have a strong background in computational methodologies with a potential experience of molecular and cellular biology. Your role will be embedded in very dynamic research groups. Possessing a team spirit and an impeccable work ethic are essential to your role.

You will conduct computing-based research on a semi-independent basis under the direction of the supervisory team. You will be expected to: design, execute and evaluate experiments; keep excellent experimental records; prepare reports regularly and feed back in regular conference calls across the consortium and written reports. You are also expected to contribute to the preparation of scientific manuscripts, attend and deliver seminars; locally and nationally. In addition, you will contribute to supervision of the research projects of MBChB medicine students.

This post is part-time and fixed-term for 18 months and is available immediately. Salary will be competitive and will be set at the appropriate point on the post-doctoral research associate scale.
