Applications are invited for the above position to join the Manufacturing Metrology Team (MMT), as part of the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing, at the University of Nottingham. The Manufacturing Metrology Team conducts fundamental research to enable the next generation of off-line and in-line metrology tools for advanced manufacturing methods with focus on precision manufacturing and advanced manufacturing. MMT has recently been awarded an ERC grant to develop fast in-process optical metrology methods using basic theory, machine learning and uncertainty analysis.

The research fellow will conduct research into theoretical optical modelling for optical instruments. This will include testing and applications for in-process measurements. Experience in experimental work with optical surface topography measuring instruments is desirable.

Candidates must have an excellent PhD degree (or be close to completion) in relevant fields in Engineering or Physics. Strong skills in model development are essential. It is also expected that the candidate will demonstrate high level communication and organisational skills.

This full-time (36.25 hour) post is available from January 2024 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period 48 months. Job share arrangements may be considered.
