Job Summary

We are looking for a talented computational biologist / bioinformatician to join the Multiple Myeloma Research Group led by Professor Tassos KaradimitrisYou should be a highly motivated and creative Research Associate, or Assistant nearing PhD completion.

The group’s research focus is on delineating transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms of oncogenesis in multiple myeloma, an incurable blood cancer, and delineation of the interplay and impact of germline and somatic genetics on the risk and biology of multiple myeloma.

Specific areas of computational biology include epigenomics, transcriptomics, including single cell transcriptomics, QTL analysis and AI (Bayesian networks)-based exploration of relevant biological questions. The lab closely collaborates with two computational biology/AI experts, and you would be expected to work closely with them, as well as with the wet lab scientists of the group

Duties and responsibilities

You will be responsible for the analysis and integration of ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, RNA-seq, TTRNA-seq, Hi-C datasets generated in the context of hypothesis driven wet lab projects and for analysis of germline and somatic whole genome datasets from large cohorts of patients including those in the UK Biobank. We expect that together these studies will provide an outstanding opportunity to understand the genetic, germline and somatic, and epigenetic basis of multiple myeloma, ultimately leading to identification of novel therapeutic targets and biomarkers for risk stratification.

Essential requirements

To be appointed as a Research Associate, you should hold a PhD (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a Biological/Medical field including Genetics/Epigenetics or a closely related discipline.

To be appointed as a Research Assistant, you should be near completion of a PhD (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or a Biological/Medical field including Genetics/Epigenetics or a closely related discipline.

You should also have experience in computational biology / bioinformatics/ AI

This is a full-time, fixed-term post based at the Hammersmith Campus (East Acton). It is currently funded through to 18 February 2025 but will likely be extended to allow for a 2-year project duration.

Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as a Research Assistant within the salary range £38,194 – £41,388 per annum.
