Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a talented epidemiologist who is familiar with nutritional/cancer epidemiology and/or evidence synthesis methods, to join the Global Cancer Update Programme (CUP Global) team at Imperial College London (ICL). The Programme is generously funded by a long-term commitment of the World Cancer Research Fund International (WCRF) and has been on-going since 2007.
Our team’s work is at the forefront of systematic evaluations of research evidence on the role of diet, nutrition, anthropometric characteristics, physical activity, and sedentary behaviour on cancer prevention and prognosis (for more information on our research see here). We conduct systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses of the published evidence, which are used by an independent International Expert Committee and an Expert Panel coordinated by WCRF, in the development and revision of diet and lifestyle recommendations for the public and cancer survivors.
You will be accountable to the Principal Investigators (PIs) of the CUP Global Programme at ICL, Dr Doris Chan and Dr Kostas Tsilidis. They will work with a team of biostatisticians, epidemiologists, nutritionists, a software engineer/database manager and a project manager, applying their expertise to evaluate and analyse published data from epidemiological studies.
Duties and responsibilities
- You will be responsible for working with and guiding a team of three junior nutritionists/ epidemiologists and a software engineer/database manager, who are performing literature searches, study selection and data extraction into the CUP Global database.
- You will work closely with the other two post-doctoral fellows in the team and the two PIs to summarise and critically appraise the evidence, contribute to the preparation of scientific reports and publications, and attract external research funding.
- You will also work with other research partners both within ICL, at WCRF, with other research teams collaborating in CUP Global in Europe and in the US, and with an international team of experts supporting this Programme.
Essential requirements
- Research Associate: Hold or be about to obtain a PhD degree or equivalent (or be close to completion) in Epidemiology, Nutrition, Biostatistics, or closely related field
- Research Assistant: Near completion of a PhD degree or equivalent (or be close to completion) in Epidemiology, Nutrition, Biostatistics, or closely related field
- We are looking to appoint a dedicated post-doctoral researcher with a background in epidemiology, nutrition, biostatistics, or other related disciplines, with excellent analytical and interpretative skills of evidence synthesis data.
- You will apply your expertise and skills to conduct systematic literature reviews and meta-analyses on diet, nutritional status, anthropometric characteristics, physical activity and sedentary behaviour on cancer risk and prognosis.
Further Information
The post is full-time and fixed-term, for 12 months (renewable subject to confirmation of funding), based at the St Mary’s Campus, Paddington, and the White City Campus, from Autumn 2023.
*Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant.
In line with ICL’s guidelines on hybrid working, individuals are normally expected to work 60% or more of their time onsite.
