The role

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the group of Prof Ingeborg Hers to study the effects of targeted protein degradation on human platelet function and thrombosis.

We are seeking to appoint a talented, ambitious, and self-motivating postdoctoral researcher with a background in Biomedical Sciences (Biochemistry, Medical Biology, Pharmacology, Cell Biology etc) to join the platelet research group of Prof Ingeborg Hers (School of Physiology, Pharmacology & Neuroscience). This is an exciting opportunity to join an active multidisciplinary research team, focussed on design, optimisation and synthesis of PROteolysis TArgeted Chimeras (PROTACs) to induce targeted protein degradation in human platelets and evaluate their functional effect on human platelet function and thrombosis (joined project with the Aggarwal group in the School of Chemistry).

What will you be doing?

You will be based in the lab of Prof Hers in the Bristol Platelet Group (School of PPN) and lead the biochemical, biological and pharmacological evaluation of existing and novel PROTACs with a focus on those PROTACs that target tyrosine kinases.  You will work closely with an organic chemist, so your findings can be fed back to further optimise PROTAC design.

You should apply if

You have a Biomedical background and a PhD in a relevant area. You have experience with a wide range of experimental techniques, such as western blotting, cell culture, FACS analysis and confocal microscopy, and are confident to develop new techniques/approaches. Experience in platelet functional analysis and/or application of PROTACs in biological systems is highly desirable. You have excellent problem-solving abilities and an ability to plan and organise your own workload effectively as well as working in a team environment. Excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills and ability to write scientific papers are essential.
