The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine is a world-leading centre for research and postgraduate education in public and global health. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice. 

We are recruiting a research fellow to set up and run POLYMOD2, the successor to the POLYMOD project which measured epidemiologically relevant contact patterns in the community. The data collected has underpinned mathematical models of close-contact disease transmission in the UK and abroad for many years. The post-holder will be expected to work with colleagues to aid with the questionnaire and study design, co-ordinate field work, analyse the data and write-up the results. The post involves survey design and statistical analysis. A knowledge of mathematical modelling would be an advantage.

The successful applicant will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant topic along with relevant experience in epidemiology, statistics, mathematical modelling, or another relevant discipline with a strong quantitative component. Experience in analysing data from field studies and/ or surveillance, preferably of infectious diseases is essential. A commitment to open science and a record of relevant publications in good journals is desirable. Further particulars are included in the attached job description.

The post is full-time, 1.0 FTE and fixed-term until 31 March 2025.

The post is funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research and is available from 1 September 2023.

The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale Grade 6 in the range £43,947 – £49,908 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
