We are seeking a full-time research fellow to work on the iHOST (improving Hospital OST) project. This NIHR funded, mixed-method study will implement and evaluate a complex intervention with the aim of improving opioid withdrawal management and care for people who use drugs in acute NHS hospital trusts. A qualitative process evaluation will assess iHOST acceptability, implementation barriers and facilitators, and contextual factors impacting outcomes.

You will be expected to lead the qualitative process evaluation at our hospital and drug treatment service sites in Leeds and Staffordshire, with follow-up data generation at our London feasibility testing sites. The post-holder will work with and be supervised by the project PI, Prof Magdalena Harris at LSHTM, and will be expected to liaise with project partners, including NHS hospital trusts and community drug treatment services. Experience in working with hospital systems and/or people who use drugs is highly desirable. 

Experience in the field of public health, as well as a postgraduate degree (ideally a doctoral degree) in a relevant topic are both essential.

This post provides an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to develop their research skills and portfolio in public health interventions for marginalised populations. You will be prepared to take a high degree of responsibility for your own work, in return for the flexibility and freedom we offer within the project to develop your own ideas. We will support the successful candidate to achieve their academic goals and provide mentoring and guidance where needed.

The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1 FTE and fixed-term until 28 February 2025.
The post is funded by NIHR and is available from 1 September 2023.

The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale Grade 6 in the range £42,875 – £46,552 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at LSHTM.
