About us
The mission of the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health is to improve the health and well-being of children, and the adults they will become, through world-class research, education and public engagement. The UCL GOS ICH, together with its clinical partner Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, forms the largest concentration of children’s health research outside North America. GOS ICH’s activities include active engagement with children and families, to ensure that our work is relevant and appropriate to their needs. GOS ICH generates the funding for our research by setting out our proposals in high quality applications to public, charitable and industrial funding bodies and disseminates the results of our research by publication in the medical and scientific literature, to clinicians, policy makers and the wider public. The Institute offers world-class education and training across a wide range of teaching and life learning programmes which address the needs of students and professional groups who are interested in and undertaking work relevant to child health.
About the role
This post offers an excellent career development opportunity for a Researcher with experience in epidemiological research methods and an interest in conducting research to inform practice for children and young people. The post is based within the Population Policy and Practice Programme (PPP) at the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (UCLGOSICH) and is funded until 20th August 2026. The post-holder will be joining a study team conducting a feasibility trial of an innovative imaging based clinical tool. The post is based within the UCLGOSICH Vison and Eyes Team, and is funded by Fight for Sight. The post-holder will take up primary responsibility for day-to-day study administration, management and analysis (quantitative and qualitative), and dissemination. They will be expected to work independently and as part of a team, in a timely manner. Training will be provided to enable the post-holder to deliver study responsibilities. The post will require the post-holder to be on site for a minimum of two days a week. The salary offered on the post is £40,524 – £43,847 per annum and is funded for 34 months in the first instance.
About you
The post holder will report to the study CI and line manager (Dr Ameenat Lola Solebo). Lola is an NIHR Clinician Scientist within PPP, and a Consultant Paediatric Ophthalmic surgeon at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Her work investigates the determinants of outcome for children with eye disease, and how best to translate these findings into changes in practice and policy. Dr Solebo also leads an international group of scientists working to standardise quantitative analyses in ocular imaging, the APOSTEL-AS group. The Population, Policy and Practice Research and Teaching Department (PPP) has an international reputation based on its exceptional track record and multi-disciplinary expertise in the study of health and disease in childhood and for its teaching relating to child health. PPP is active and fully committed to advancing equity, diversity, inclusion, and to anti-racism, in the workplace and in wider academia, with a PPP EDI group within which sit members of the ICH EDI and Race Equity Group.
