The School of Medicine at Cardiff University seek to appoint two Research Fellows in Cancer Bioinformatics to join the Division of Cancer and Genetics (DCG), working in the area of Precision and Mechanistic Oncology. The successful candidates will be individuals seeking to develop an independent programme of research aligned to the existing research strengths within the DCG. By developing novel bioinformatic based analytical pipelines for the interrogation of complex genomic data, and analysing large genomic datasets, the postholders will investigate the underlying mechanisms of tumorigenesis. It is anticipated that this work will lead to translational and clinical research activity, that could result in the development of clinical tools for precision medicine. The postholders will be expected to develop cross cutting collaborative links across the Cardiff University cancer research theme, developing competitive research proposals and building research capacity to support Precision and Mechanistic Oncology research – a key area of strength highlighted for support through the recent Cancer Research Strategy for Wales document. The postholders will actively contribute towards the delivery of the aims and objectives highlighted in this document.
The successful applicants will have a growing national reputation within the academic field, an excellent record of high-quality research, and the enthusiasm and drive to play a key role in enhancing the School’s reputation for impactful research and community engagement.
In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, clinical medicine at Cardiff – which includes the Division of Cancer and Genetics – was ranked as 92% of its research activity being world-leading or internationally excellent.
The postholders will engage with external academic, professional and industrial partners to enhance the School’s reach and reputation, and will enhance the School’s creative and inclusive community, which is recognised for its impact on policy, practice and public life.
The positions are funded by Health & Care Research Wales (CReSt Catalytic Funding), and will be based in the Cancer Genetics Building, Heath Park campus.

The posts are full-time (35 hours per week), fixed term until 31 March 2025, and available from 1 June 2023.
Salary £45,737 – £52,841 per annum (Grade 7). Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.
