Role Summary

This role will be central to the programme in the delivery of scientific services and commercial pathway support to assist companies engaging with the programme. The role will also advise on product design, testing and development, removing barriers for innovative businesses and stratifying product development.

The successful post holder will: 

  • Initiate and conduct original research which has measurable outcomes and is reflected in a growing national and often incipient international reputation in any of the fields of healthcare informatics, digital healthcare, and health data science.
  • Plan, design, and co-ordinate research activities and commercial as part of the project, within the Digital Healthcare and Medical Imaging Research Group and Department of Electronic, Electrical and System Engineering, within the School of Engineering, and the overall consortium associated with the project.
  • Contribute to the development of research strategies, in conjunction with the Research Group Head. 
  • Analyse and interpret research findings and results, writing reports and disseminating by paper-writing where appropriate. Publish results of own research in the project.
  • Provide advanced technical assistance to the development of medical innovations across expertise.
  • Support and coordinate the raising of funding by working with companies as appropriate. 
  • Contribute to licensing or spin out deals with demonstrated commercial success (such as revenues, asset or company sales, IP generated) and/or public understanding of the discipline or similar.

Person Specification

  • Possession of a PhD in any of the areas of healthcare informatics, digital healthcare, heath data science, software engineering for medicine/health or a relevant discipline or equivalent qualification (including evidence of equivalent industry experience).
  • Extensive research experience and scholarship within the project’s areas of specialism, or equivalent industrial experience.
  • Experience and achievement reflected in a growing reputation trough publication and activities in the field.
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated success in planning, undertaking and project managing research to deliver high quality results.
  • Extensive experience of applying and/or developing and devising successful models, techniques, and methods in any of the areas of healthcare informatics, digital healthcare, heath data science, software engineering for medicine/health.
