Full Time Fixed Term until 31 May 2026
Closing Date: Wednesday 27 September 2023
Interview Date: To be confirmed
We are looking to recruit a researcher with PhD or equivalent qualification in the area of human medical genomics or epigenomics. We encourage applications from candidates with proven expertise in one or more of the following: medical genetics or genomics, epigenetics or epigenomics, long-read DNA sequencing, genomic or multi-omic informatics. Funded by the Medical Research Council, the position will be a fixed-term appointment until 31st of May 2026 in the Wessex Imprinting Group (PI Deborah Mackay), within the Faculty of Medicine, University of Southampton.
The postholder will join a multi-disciplinary team combining clinical, metabolomic, epigenomic and genomic approaches to study a prospective cohort of people with the rare condition, Multi-Locus Imprinting Disturbance (MLID). The study aims to better understand how MLID alters the clinical history of patients, describe novel causes of the condition, and identify epigenomic and metabolomic biomarkers to predict which patients will benefit from specific management and therapeutic interventions. Developing novel epigenetic tests alongside long-read sequencing, the postholder will benefit from the thriving omic medicine network in the Faculty of Medicine, and an international research community on imprinting disorders, offering excellent opportunities for collaboration and publications.
Applications will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon completion of PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
