Overall Purpose of the Job:

The Division of Cancer Sciences is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow (fixed term, 36 months) to lead a research project into the genomic epidemiology of neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) funded by the US Department of Defense. The project, “Modeling Risk of Radiation-Associated Malignant

Progression in Familial NF2 with Machine Learning”, seeks to identify genomic risk factors for complications of radiotherapy in patients with NF2, using epidemiological and imaging data from a national cohort study, gathering new data from a bank of tumour samples stored in St. Mary’s Hospital, Manchester.

The successful candidate must be able to lead a cross-school collaboration, in addition to having extensive experience of machine learning, mathematical models, software development, and the deployment of bioinformatics pipelines. A proven record of first-author publications on either NF2 or related diseases such as vestibular schwannoma or DiGeorge syndrome is essential. A key goal of this project is the development of a practical free software package that implements an appropriate risk model. Consequently, any experience with image processing software and software dependency management is also highly desirable.
