Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity available for an experienced MRI RF coil engineer to join the POLARIS Research Group at the University of Sheffield.

You will be based in the POLARIS group in the Imaging theme of the Department of Infection, Immunity & Cardiovascular Disease under the mentorship of Professor Jim Wild. The POLARIS group are internationally-recognised for research in MR engineering methodology for hyperpolarised gas and proton MRI of the lungs (Webpage: www.sheffield.ac.uk/polaris, Twitter: @UosPolaris).

This role will involve leading on RF coil engineering projects for proton and non-proton applications at a range of field strengths. Additionally, you shall be involved in a basic technology collaboration with a major industry partner (GE Healthcare) on an aligned project around basic MRI technology research and development and applications. This aspect of the job will require industry liason and some research project management experience. The group also have strong links with colleagues in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering with opportunities for joint research projects, student supervision and undergraduate and MSc teaching.

You will be able to contribute to the supervision of PhD and undergraduate students in the research group and actively participate in ongoing international collaborations with other academic and industrial research partners.

Who we are looking for:

We are seeking candidates with a good Honours degree in Physics or Engineering (or equivalent), a PhD in MRI RF coil Engineering (or equivalent) and experience in academic-industrial collaborations. As this role involves substantial hands-on expertise, substantial practical experience in RF coil design and construction is therefore required. Candidates should also have excellent MRI physics, signal processing, computational, communication and project management skills.

A proven track record of high-quality scientific publications and demonstrated evidence in working in a multi-disciplinary team is essential. Previous experience in assisting the supervision of PhD students and technical staff is desirable.
