About us

Join one of the Country’s leading Clinical Trials Units.

The Institute is a centre of excellence for the conduct of all phases of clinical trials, meta-analysis, and epidemiological studies, across a range of diseases to improve outcomes for patients and training and developing the next generation of trialists.

The MRC Clinical Trials Unit is at the forefront of resolving internationally important questions, primarily in infectious diseases, cancer and neurodegenerative diseases. A key goal is to deliver swifter and more effective translation of scientific research into patient and public health benefits.

About the role

This post provides an exciting opportunity to spend a year at the MRC CTU, training in all aspects of (cancer) clinical trial design and management. The post can be tailored to be suitable for either a senior trainee seeking to gain enhanced experience in clinical trials prior to taking up a substantive consultant post, or for someone earlier in their career who might use this opportunity to develop an application for external funding to pursue a PhD within the unit.

The post holder will provide clinical support to large, multi-centre cancer trials, being exposed to all aspects of the clinical trial process, from identifying new areas of study (potentially performing reviews/meta-analyses to support trial ideas), funding, ethical applications and trial management. They will initially be assigned to one particular trial, but other opportunities may develop depending upon their clinical interests and the activities of the Unit.

They will work closely with colleagues from within the unit and the Institute, and with appropriate national and international collaborators from academia and industry. They will be part of a wider clinical fellows program and be involved in teaching on the MSc and intercalated BSc clinical trials modules. The clinical fellow will have the opportunity to maintain their clinical skills by attending an outpatient clinic once a week if desirable.

This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 40% on site.

The salary is StR £46,821 – £57,603 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. The role will provide 12 months maternity cover, and is offered on a fixed term basis.

Duties of the role will include:

  • Provision of clinical advice to site staff and other members of the collaboration
  • Monitoring of participant safety, including review of adverse events in the trial
  • Training of site staff – developing and maintaining up-to-date training materials and guidance documents and delivery of training as required at site locations.

About you

Applicants should have:-

  • demonstrated knowledge of multidisciplinary cancer care
  • experience of working as a specialist registrar, or equivalent, in a relevant medical speciality
  • excellent communication skills
  • effective management skills
