Senior Lecturer in Learning Disability – Health Sciences

At this time of continuing growth in the School of Health Sciences, we are creating a new academic position, one that will contribute to our child health focus, inclusive of all child populations. We are seeking a healthcare professional with expertise in working with children and young people with a learning disability and their families. This person will bring their passion to delivering expert and safe care to this child population to students, through our various education pathways, and influence inclusive research undertaken in our school. At the same time, continuing to build their own research programme that focusses on children and young people who have a learning disability.

The School of Health Sciences is part of the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and is a leading provider of undergraduate education in nursing, midwifery, operating department practice, and paramedic practice. The School has an extensive portfolio of postgraduate and continuing professional development courses, research and consultancy, along with excellent links with local health care providers which enables valuable research and practice development projects. Our work flows across research and teaching clusters focussing on groups of diseases and/or particular client groups including cancer care, long term conditions and ageing, and child, maternal and & family health including mental health.   Research within the school is enabled by two further clusters focussing on Digital Health and Workforce Organisation & Wellbeing.  

We are excited to be able to welcome academics whose strong national and/or international research profile will support a significant programme of research, often through collaborative working with NHS partners/health care providers. Candidates will have an excellent track record of publications, grants and postgraduate supervision in areas which complement our research and teaching clusters.  Your start at Surrey will be supported by access to advanced technology and research facilities including our state-of-the-art simulation suites and Clinical Research Facility.  

The School is based in a modern, purpose built, teaching and research building on the beautiful University of Surrey campus in Guildford with close links to London.  Our benefits package includes generous annual leave entitlement, discounted membership to the Surrey Sports Park, nursery on site and relocation assistance. NB We offer the USS pension scheme but you may be able to continue to pay into the NHS pension scheme, subject to certain criteria.
