Location: Based at Swansea University Medical School, Singleton Campus and Morriston Hospital, Swansea Bay University Health Board
We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Emergency Medicine with a track record in emergency medicine research. The candidate’s research interests are expected to align with research activity within the Medical School (https://www.swansea.ac.uk/medicine/research/) especially that within PRIME Centre Wales (https://healthandcareresearchwales.org/about-research-community/wales-centre-primary-and-emergency-care-research-prime-centre-wales) and/or the Welsh Centre for Emergency Medicine Research (https://sbuhb.nhs.wales/urgentout-of-hours/emergency-department-ed/the-welsh-centre-for-emergency-medicine-research/). PRIME Centre Wales is a research centre focussing on primary and emergency care with a remit that includes sustaining and promoting academic emergency medicine. The Welsh Centre for Emergency Medicine Research was formed as a collaboration between the Royal College of Emergency Medicine, Swansea Bay University Health Board and Swansea University (Medicine, Engineering and Chemistry) and works closely with pharmaceutical and industrial collaborators to evaluate both current and new drugs and therapies. It has a dedicated laboratory with state-of-the-art equipment at Morriston Hospital and access to other technologies within the Medical School facilities on Singleton campus. Research within these centres is focused on bioscience, translational medicine, epidemiology, health services and public health, especially in areas which have a major impact on healthcare in Wales.
The Emergency Department has a strong culture of research and has successfully recruited thousands of patients to numerous research studies. Clinical and non-clinical academic staff work together in a multidisciplinary setting and are committed to developing and training early career academics.
The Medical School is a progressive, dynamic, and aspirational part of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science located on the Singleton Campus of Swansea University and provides an interdisciplinary approach, educating and training the next generation of doctors, life scientists, and health professionals. It collaborates with the NHS, business and the third sector in a spirit of open innovation and has established itself as a world-class place to learn, research and innovate. The Medical School ranks top 5 for research quality (REF2021) and is consistently top 5 in various subject-specific teaching league tables. The Medical School became the first department within the University to achieve an Equality Challenge Unit (ECU) Athena SWAN Charter Silver Award in 2015, and this was re-awarded in 2019 in recognition of its commitment to equality. The University also holds the Athena SWAN Charter Silver Award. Swansea is a great place to live and work, the gateway to the Gower with its fantastic beaches and close to the Brecon Beacons.
