We are currently recruiting for a Senior Postdoctoral Scientist with expertise in cell biology and genetics. Specifically, we are looking for a plant scientist with expertise in protein metallation during rhizobia-legume symbiosis. The Postdoctoral Scientist will report to the Principal Investigator, Prof. Michael Zimmermann, and to Prof. Hal Drakesmith, at the Weatherall Institute of Molecular Medicine at John Radcliffe Hospital. The post holder will be a member of a larger, multicentre research group. This research will focus on the development and evaluation of two plant-derived haem-structured iron compounds, iron chlorophyllin and soy leghaemoglobin for human nutrition.

The post holder will be responsible for developing research questions on plant-derived haem-structured iron compounds, conducting individual research, analysing detailed and complex qualitative and/or quantitative data from a variety of sources, and generating original ideas by building on existing concepts. The role will involve regularly writing research articles at a national level for peer-reviewed journals, book chapters, and reviews, as well as presenting papers at national conferences, and lead seminars to disseminate research findings.

To be considered for this position you should hold a relevant PhD/DPhil with post-qualification research experience of at least 5 years. You will possess sufficient specialist knowledge in molecular plant science to develop research projects and methodologies in protein metallation during rhizobia-legume symbiosis. Having the ability to independently plan and manage a research project, including a research budget and the ability to raise research funds through making grant applications, are also essential capabilities for this post. This project would be excellent for those who have a strong publication record and familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field of protein metallation during rhizobia-legume symbiosis. Experience of supervising staff would be a desirable attribute for this role.

This role offers the successful applicant the opportunity to carry out collaborative projects with colleagues in partner institutions, and research groups. There is also the opportunity to liaise with funding bodies and provide information to project stakeholders and represent the research group at external meetings/seminars, either with other members of the team or alone.

This post is full time and fixed term for 24 months.
