The University of Otago is one of New Zealand’s largest and most research-intensive universities. Founded in 1907, the Faculty of Dentistry is based at the University’s main campus in Dunedin with clinics in Auckland and South Dunedin and is the only dental school in New Zealand. It is proud of its international reputation for research, clinical, and academic excellence. The 2023 QS World University Subject Rankings list the Dental School as 42nd in the world.
The Faculty of Dentistry comprises of three Departments (Oral Rehabilitation, Oral Diagnostic and Surgical and Oral Sciences) as well as the Sir John Walsh Research Institute.
The role – Te mahi
The University is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Senior Profession Practice Fellows in Dentistry. As a Senior Professional Practice Fellow, you will help support teaching, facilitate learning, assist with assessments, and carry out clinical service requirements.
Some key tasks include:
- Preparation, assessment, teaching and paper administration duties.
- Contributing to the Department’s academic goals by applying expert clinical knowledge in your area of specialty.
Skills and Experience – Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
The successful applicant will hold a dental degree and must have registration or be eligible for registration with the Dental Council of New Zealand.
The candidate will also have:
- a practicing certificate in place before starting work.
- evidence and ability to work well with students and staff from differing academic and cultural backgrounds and at all levels of the institution.
- commitment to uphold the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi and the University’s Māori Strategic Framework.

We have six job openings, offering both permanent and fixed-term positions. The duration of the fixed-term positions can be negotiable with the successful candidates.
We have both full-time (1.0 FTE) and part-time positions available, allowing for employment over the full year or semester time only.
The salary range for these positions are $102,270 to $172,693 per annum.
