The role
This role is for a qualitative researcher to join the team of the Improving primary care antibiotic prescribing to reduce antibiotic resistant urine infections (IPAP-UTI) Programme. The overall aim of the programme is to optimise UK antibiotic prescribing for urinary tract infections (UTIs) in primary care, in response to local antimicrobial resistance (AMR) trends. The programme will develop a new intervention and conduct 2-3 cluster randomised controlled trials (RCT) in a different Integrated Care Board areas.
This post will involve conducting qualitative research to:
- inform intervention development,
- optimize the intervention for each trial, and
- conduct a qualitative process evaluation of each trial.
What will you be doing?
The main responsibilities of the post holder will be:
- To support with drafting and submitting of required ethics applications and supporting documentation (information leaflet, consent forms)
- To develop topic guides and other data collection instruments
- To identify suitable participants and field sites and recruit participants
- To conduct semi-structured interviews
- To undertake and coordinate analysis of qualitative data
- To work collaboratively with the intervention design team to develop the interventions
- To lead on drafting and submitting publications
- To contribute to the routine management of the study, including maintaining secure and accurate study records and monitoring and reporting against study timeline and spending
- To take responsibility for storing and managing data in suitable formats, according to data protection and ethical guidelines
- To prepare reports on study progress, as required
- To communicate effectively and appropriately with a range of study contacts and research partners, including GPs and other primary care practitioners, patient and public advisors, managers and commissioners in the ICB, and academic colleagues
- To represent the team at external events, such as conferences and network meetings
You should apply if
- You have experience of conducting qualitative research, developing interventions with behavioural change component, and conducting qualitative process evaluations
- You have a proven ability to organise own time and work, manage competing priorities working independently and using initiative to problem-solve
- You have a PhD in a relevant subject or equivalent relevant professional experience
- You have proven ability to work with key stakeholders, including various professional groups, academic collaborators, research funders, service users and carers, and the public
- You have excellent written communication skills, including evidence of writing for publication and for a range of audiences
- Experience of the UK primary care setting is desirable but not essential

Contract type: Open-ended with funding until 31/12/2027

Salary: £40,745 – £45,737 per annum (pro rata)
School/Unit: Bristol Medical School
Shift pattern: 28 hours per week
