We are excited to offer this opportunity for an experienced qualitative/mixed methods researcher to help deliver the next phase of a national study on managing sleep and fatigue in an NHS workforce. This part-time (0.8fte) post is with the NIHR CATNAPS project, funded by the HS&DR programme (Chief Investigator Prof Kristy Sanderson, School of Health Sciences). This mixed-methods research study has co-produced a systems-based approach to improving sleep and managing fatigue in the NHS ambulance workforce across the four UK nations, and is now recruiting frontline staff and patients to understand their experiences and how these could be improved. You will be a key member of the team of co-investigators and collaborators across the ambulance sector including the University of Hertfordshire, Health & Safety Executive, NHS ambulance staff, and patient and public representatives.
This phase of the project involves qualitative interviews (online) with frontline NHS ambulance staff and ambulance service users/patients, and observational ethnography with ambulance crews out on shift and staff in Emergency Operations Centres. You will be an integral part of the research team, conducting interviews and supporting observations, and will have a key role in analysis. You will have the opportunity to apply and develop your data collection and analysis skills, commensurate with your skills and experience.
You will be a qualitative or mixed methods researcher with a postgraduate research degree (or equivalent experience) and track record in research delivery and dissemination. Experience with qualitative interviewing or observation is essential. This role is suitable for a range of research backgrounds including social sciences, psychology, allied health, nursing, and public health. There will be some travel within the UK required.
This post is available from 1 November 2023 on a part time (0.8fte) fixed term basis for 6 months.
