The role
We have an exciting opportunity to recruit two highly motivated researchers with a keen interest in evidence synthesis. You will play central roles in the conduct of evidence syntheses in the cancer area, and contribute to methodological development.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the Cancer Research UK funded Integrative Cancer Epidemiology Programme, benefiting from working alongside international leaders in the field of systematic reviews. You will also work closely with other team members including the project statistician and cancer epidemiologists.

What will you be doing?
As a core member of the project team, you will make major contributions to multiple aspects of the systematic review process including screening of titles and abstracts to identify studies eligible for inclusion in the review; extraction of information about included studies onto pre-prepared data collection forms; and evaluation of the quality or risk of bias of the included studies.
You will summarise information on included studies (e.g., using review flow charts and tables of included studies), synthesise the results of these primary research studies (e.g., using narrative syntheses and descriptive statistical analyses), and contribute to the preparation of reports and papers for publication.
You will also work on methodological projects aligned with the work of the MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit.
You should apply if
You have:
- A PhD in epidemiology, public health, medical statistics or other relevant discipline, or equivalent professional research experience
- Significant experience of research (or transferable skills gained from professional or clinical experience combined with some experience or an awareness of the research environment)
- Experience of conducting systematic reviews, scoping reviews, rapid reviews, or overviews of various types of evidence
- Experience of preparing reports and papers for publication
- A systematic and thorough approach to work with a high level of attention to detail
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- A commitment to team working

Contract type: Open-ended with fixed funding for 12 months (30/09/2024)

Salary: £40,745 – £43,155 per annum
School/Unit: Bristol Medical School
