Salary: UH8 £43,155 pa pro rata with potential to progress to £54,421pa pro rata / UH7 £36,333 pa pro rata with potential to progress to £43,155 by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience
Annual Leave: 35 days pa pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Are you a researcher on a trajectory to becoming a future research leader? The Musculoskeletal Research Unit in the School of Health and Social Work is investing in its research staff and infrastructure to assist in the further growth of research excellence and collaboration. This is in line with the University’s vision to transform the lives of its staff and students and enable people to realize their potential. We are offering this position for a 3-year term, with the expectation that the successful appointee will grow their research activities to become a permanent academic staff member by the end of that period.
We are seeking an ambitious Senior Research fellow or a Research Fellow to develop high-quality research which leads to improving our knowledge and understanding of MSK conditions and improving the care for people living with these conditions.
Whilst remote working is continuing within the Unit, the successful applicant must be prepared to travel to the University when required and to travel as necessary to undertake their research responsibilities.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will be required to undertake research within the scope of the project, establishing a programme of research activity whilst working collaboratively with colleagues and representing the research project at project meetings. You will contribute to learning and teaching within the Physiotherapy Department and School of Health and Social Work whilst supervising under and post-graduate students related to the research field.
Skills and experience required
You will require substantial proven experience working in a research environment, as well as leading research projects and providing leadership to junior staff. A record of scholarly work such as published work is essential, along with presenting research findings to conferences. You will have the required knowledge of research methodology appropriate for the subject area. Knowledge of appropriate databases for the discipline and the ability to conduct literature searches is crucial to this role. Moreover, we will expect you to have good oral and written communication skills in English as well as interpersonal and presentation skills.
Qualifications required
You will be required to hold a minimum of an Undergraduate Honours degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline. A PhD qualification or equivalent will be essential to the role.
